摘要

Disorders of the lower urinary tract of cats characterized by hematuria, painful urination, increased frequency of urination, and/or urethral obstruction, affect over half a million cats in the United States annually. Lower urinary tract diseases (LUTD) account for 23% of all diagnoses established in cats evaluated at the Michigan State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (MSU-VTH). Various combinations of these clinical signs have historically been referred to as the "Feline Urologic Syndrome" (FUS). However, the term FUS is being less commonly used by the veterinary profession to describe disorders characterized by hematuria, dysuria, pollakiuria, and/or urethral obstruction because varying combinations of these signs may be associated with any cause of feline lower urinary tract disease.
