NEW APPROACHES TO ENHANCE THE SENSITIVITY OF ALANINE/EPR DOSIMETRY

After the establishment of Solid State/EPR dosimetry and specially alanine/EPR dosimetry as a very useful tool in high-dose estimations of high-energy radiation the interest of many researchers in the last decade is focused on its extension in the field of low (therapeutical) dose region. This problem gives rise to difficulties connected with the limited sensitivity of EPR spectrometers, relatively low chemical quantum yield (G-value) of alanine stable free radicals, etc. Therefore, two main approaches are hardly considered in solving recently the problem: (1) Accumulation of alanine EPR spectrum in order to increase the ratio S/N and/or its computer manipulations, etc.; (2) Searching for other radiation sensitive materials (RSM) with higher G-value.
