Spectrometric properties, such as light output, energy resolution BGO crystals before and after ↑(60)Co gamma-ray(dose 10↑(4)-10↑(6) R) and neutron irradiation (fluence 10↑(14) cm↑(-2) ) are investigated. Condition for degradation of spectrometric properties and their recovering after irradiation are studied. The energy spectrum of the photons emitted fi.om BGO crystals irradiated with neutron fluence contains the long living background peak which is caused by self-irradiation with radioactive isotopes produced in the crystals. The defect production was studied in crystals under the high dose gamma-irradiation with ↑(60)Co isotope. It was found that after doses above 10↑(8) R the colour centre at 365 nm and doses higher than 109 R a wide absorption band in the region of 300-350 nm occur. Comparison of these results with those of reactorirradiation has shown that under the high dose gamma-irradiation the structure defect production takes place.
