Bypass method for estimating backward scattering coefficient

摘要

The bypass method to estimate the backward scattering coefficient using the scatterance at 120 degrees was confirmed. The regression analysis gives b$-b$/ $EQ 7.48 $beta (120) with the maximum error of 6 percent. The relation is held for all wavelength and for all water from open sea to coastal area. Further, the relation seems to be also applicable to water being rich of phytoplankton, except for some species of phytoplankton. It is concluded that the method is practical and promising for routine works.
