The second law of thermodynamics is applied to natural convection in a rectangular cavity heated at hte bottom and cooled at the top with adiabatic side boundaries,to obtain a general equation for the rate of entropy generation,in the cavity,which,usin gocmmon symbols in thermofluid science,may be written as where Ar=the aspect ratio (width/heiht) of the cavity,Ra-a Rayleigh number,with #PHI#=stream function.
