Aluminium clad steel 'FERAN'

Aluminium clad steel strips have been produced for approximately 70 years and was initially developed for the radio tube industry, but additional applications soon developed. Since the 1960's it saw use in the automotive market for mufflers, suspension systems, head gaskets and heat shields. Could rolled cladding is a process, which represents a combination between deformation and surface coating. In comparison to competing processes of electro or hot dip coating, strips can receive thick coating layers in a very short time. After the initial bonding the clad material must be annealed to allow the diffusion of one metal into the other which completes the metallurgical bonding. Because of the good corrosion and scaling resistance Al-clad steel very often is used for exhaust muffler, heat shields, safety components; i.e. for vehicles with cross steering or sterving track lever. There are several other examples for the application of FERAN and even for copper or brass-clad steel in- and out-side of the automotive industry.
