Prof. Szekely was one of first researchersto extensively apply numerical modeling methods tomaterials processing. In this paper, numericalsolidification process models are discussed. The roleplayed by the disparate length scales of nucleation,growth, coarsening and heat transfer in process modelingis described, with an emphasis on methods for providingsolution accuracy and predictability.
