Any calibration that is carried out by manual is usually expensive and inefficient. Center for Measurement Standard, ITRI has developed an automated portable scale calibrator that greatly reduced both the cost and the labor hours for the calibration. The calibrator consists of three parts, a hydraulic actuator system, a loading frame and adjusting mechanism, and a controlling computer. A software is integrated to coordinate controlling, monitoring, and data acquisition during the calibration. A pre-calibrated load cell is fixed on the loading frame and is linked to the computer to control the applied force. As the force is within the tolerance of nominal value, the computer automatically takes the scale reading and displays it on monitor. This process can be done repeatedly until all desired data are recorded. This research evaluates the accuracy of this calibrator by installing another load cell on the loading frame to replace the scales, but all other functions such as force control and data acquisition are remain unchanged. The uncertainty of this calibrator is found perfectly acceptable.
