Looking for Objective Evidence The ISO 9000 Auditors View

The national concern about the implications of ISO 9000 standards is increasing daily! We have gone from a passive attitude of "it's only a European standard" to "will someone tell me when it will affect my business?" Clearly the ISO 9000 standard will impact all international companies because ISO is now an international standard adopted by 91 countries. Over time requirements for ISO compliance or certification will come from our customers. There have been many articles, publications and presentations on all aspects of the ISO 9000 standards. Either ISO is a money making proposition or a standard whose time has come. This paper looks at the "bottom line" in implementing ISO and answers the question "What are the auditors looking for when you bring them into your organization for ISO 9000 registration?" This paper covers background information as you are developing and implementing your quality management system. It also outlines general audit preparation, structure and responsibilities. Finally, there are some specific "audit probes" or approaches illustrated.
