Maintaining Calibration Congruence Within the Navair Calibration Community

How does an organization consisting of over 100 calibration laboratories ensure that all calibrations are performed identically using like standards and methodology? The Department of the Navy maintains the Metrology Requirements List (METRL) for its quality assurance system for use by all Navy calibration facilities. The METRL lists thousands of test instruments and their instrument calibration procedures. Most test instruments utilized by Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) are listed in the METRL. For those NAVAIR instruments not included in the METRL, a process entitled the Calibration Problem Assistance Request (CPAR) is employed.
