Accreditation of calibration laboratories in the United States is in its infancy. The challenges to its growth and acceptance are many. Industries are obsessed with ISO9000 and its promise of 'quality'. They are either unaware of accreditation or have chosen to ignore it. Once they realize its benefits they will begin demanding compliance. Before that happens, there are hurdles that must be overcome. These problems can be resolved. Some may be easy to fix, others may require a different perspective in order to be solved. I'll investigate some of the problems and offer some possible solutions.
