National Skills and Qualifications for Metrology Technicians

In addressing metrology certification skills or establishment of national voluntary skill standards, two critical questions must be answered: 1) What requirements constitute acceptable qualification for metrology technicians to enable them to be the best at their jobs? 2) How to evaluate when someone performs them well? What would be the positive outcomes in the national skills determination and assessment? These are fourfold: 1) Metrologists know how to improve their performance; 2) employers know what skills to look for in their employees; 3) educators and trainers know what needs to be taught; 4) students know what to study; 5) and employers know where to focus training dollars. The Higher Education and Advanced Technology Center at Lowry has completed a national curriculum through a process utilizing experts from NIST, NCSL and industry. This presentation will cover those qualifications and education requirements.
