More than four billion years ago the formation of organic chemical compounds and their libraries -were formed by multicomponent reactions, the MCR's, before the first living organisms were introduced as well as in the then introduced and now existent living cells . In principle, all chemical reactions correspond to equilibria between one or two chemical compounds, but in organic chemistry most of the preferred preparative reactions correspond to practically irreversible conversions of the educts into the products. If more than two chemical compounds are converted into their desired products, usually via isolated intermediates sequences of chemical procedures are carried out. The multicomponent reactions, the MCR's, have the advantage, that many different starting materials can be converted directly by one-pot procedures into the final products; the yields are often much higher than by sequences of multistep procedures.
