摘要

In order to prepare a mirror-quality end of an optical glass fiber available for optical communication, some devices of the cutting procedure have been on the market and used in the field. However, a complete mirror quality end surface cannotalways be produced by this cutting devices. Hence a compact method to judge the fracture surface of the fiber must be developed. Therefore, the fractal dimension was calculated for Acoustic Emission(AE) pulse of optical fiber emitted on cutting procedure. And we discussed the mechanism of mutual relation between fracture end surface state and crack growth behavior of optical fiber from the viewpoint of fracture mechanics. As a result, It was found that the fractal dimension was tend to decrease as the AEenergy was increased.
