The correlation analysis of a predetermined three-dimensional environment (analysis cell) to form data points assigned to each analysis point from a seismic three-dimensional data set comprises calculating the correlation from data points assigned to each analysis cell as a square of the median of the attribute (amplitude) divided by the average quadratic attribute (amplitude) and assigning to each analysis point as a local correlation value. Preferred Features: The correlation value is calculated depending on the local inclination of the geological formations, in which the local inclination angle and the local inclination azimuth is assessed from a number of considered inclinations with respect to the maximum correlation value.
