We have developed twisted liquid crystalline polymer retarders providing temperature-matched compensation for STN displays. The birefringence of the liquid crystalline polymers of these retarders decreases with increasing temperature in a similar way as found with commercial liquid crystalline mixtures used in these displays. This property gives our retarders the unique ability to provide full compensation of the birefringence effects of the display over a broad range of temperatures.
