Electro-optical characteristics of xenon discharge were observed for the surface-discharge ac plasma displays by using an ultra-high speed electronic camera concerning the electrode structure and the basic gas discharge mechanisms. It is clarified that 147nm ultraviolet rays are emitted above not only the cathodes but also the anodes.
