The superconducting properties of fullerene intercalation com-pounds can be rationalized fairly well in the context of standard theories. On the other hand, our understanding of correlations between chemical composition, crystal structure, molecular orientations, formal valence etc. and the very existence of metallic and superconducting ground states re-mains rudimentary. I present a review of the current status of this problem, and attempt to distinguish features that are understood from those which seriously need more work, both experimental and theoretical. I also sum-marize some aspects of the crystal structures which remain to be clarified.
