摘要

The tooling design process for Powder Metallurgy was carefully studied and a detailed process description of the involved activities was documented. Activities were identified where computerization could be applied to improve the design process. Examples include the selection of part and tool materials, the selection of a press, and the application of dimensional factors during tool dimension calculations. Knowledge acquisition methods were developed to elicit expertise in P/M tool design. This paper describes the integration of computer software into the tooling design process to assist a tool designer. The computer assisted system is being developed on top of a mechanical Computer Aided Design (CAD) package.
