A computer-based system has been developed for automated monitoring and storing of variables that control the atmosphere in a sintering furnace. This hardware/software system developed by BOC Gases, provides for remote access to historical and real-time data obtained from the furnace, using a standard modern. Key variables that influence the atmosphere such as flow rates, dew point, oxygen content, hydrogen percentage, temperature and belt speed are measured and logged into a local telemetry unit located near the furnace. This data is then polled by a specially developed software program and downloaded to a personal computer. The newly developed proprietary BOC software is capable of linking desired locations called "hot spots" on a custom configured furnace diagram to actual sensor locations on the physical furnace. The software is used to generate data output in chart formats including user defined chart types.
