The development of hydraulic CNC powder compaction presses in conjunction with the use of CPA (Controlled Punch Adapter) opens up new ways in powder compaction technology. Mannesmann has developed the HPM E2 series of hydraulic presses with user-friendly CNC system to match the increasing severity of quality assurance requirements, to embrace the full scope of attributes expected by users of an advanced press system and to increase the process capability. The high-precision closed-loop control axis has significantly increased the potentials of multi-level net shape component production. The new additional functions for powder transfer, continuous-path control during compaction and the individual movements of the CPA-cylinders to eliminate the different punch deflections during ejection allow a crack-free part production. Component qualities are improved by the acquisition, monitoring and evaluation of process data.
