The convergence of supramolecular and polymer sciences has led to the construction of analogs of traditional macromolecules by a variety of supramolecular methods. Due to their unique topological character and potential functions, pseudorotaxane and rotaxane systems may lead to advancements in many applications. Herein, we report paraquat and crown ether-functionalized polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) that undergo self-assembly leading to chain extension, diblock copolymers and 3-armed star polymers.
