Multifunctional Organic-inorganic Hybrid Efficient Heterogeneous Catalysts for Tandem Reaction

Sonogashira and Henry reaction are among one of the most important base catalyzed carbon-carbon bond forming reaction in organic synthesis. Performing these reactions require expensive transition metal and purification of the products at every step. We have specially designed a heterogeneous multifunctional catalyst for performing both the Sonogashira and Henry reaction tandemly in one pot system.Using different polarity of solvents we have designed our heterogeneous catalyst by grafting amine-palladium complex, capable of catalyzing the Sonogashira and Henry reaction individually and tandemly in one pot system. This heterogeneous multifunctional catalyst is recyclable multiple times without loss of activity thus minimizing the cost of usage of the transition metal and has enabled us to prevent the unnecessary use of solvents and other toxic chemicals to purify each reaction individually. We have also demonstrated the ability of our heterogeneous multifunctional catalyst to catalyze the tandem reaction efficiently with homogeneous base system.
