We have studied templated sol gel synthesis of fluorescentsilica particles. Organic fluorescent dye Rhodamine640(R640) was physically (non-covalently) entrapped insideclosed type nanochannels. The assembly at differenttemperatures and concentrations of silica precursor wereinvestigated. We also studied a possible leakage of R640 dyefrom the nanochannels and suggested a way to arrest theleakage by secondary vapor phase silica coating on theparticles. This method will ultimately lead to the synthesis ofultra bright silica nanoparticles.
