This study investigates mechanical stretch induced gene expression of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) fibroblasts, in particular the gene expression of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. While the ACL doesnot exhibit a functional healing response after injury, the MCL does heal post-traumatically [1]. Intrinsic differences between ACL and MCL fibroblasts are hypothesized to be partially responsible for the healing differential. The objective of this studyis to examine the effects of stretch on gene expression in ACL and MCL fibroblasts to understand how physical forces can influence tissue healing and remodeling.
