Renal tubular injury is a common lethal problem, costing billions of fedral health dollars annually. Some of the molecules that mediate many forms of this injury (gp280 and pg) have ben identified in vivo. However, to date there are no known cell culture conditions, in which isolated kidney epithelial cell can be maintained without de-differentiation and loss of these tissue-specific markers.
