This paper introduces the concept and advantages of multimedia within the context of marketplace potential and business opportunities. The development of multimedia products and services will enable and empower people, companies and organisations to continually adapt and thrive on change, and to differentiate information effectively to gain competitive advantage in the marketplace. It explores the advantages and potential impact that multimedia will have on most areas of society and industry, even in areas not as yet thought possible. It also outlines the projected significant growth and value of information technology capable of delivering multimedia. Therefore it shows that not only do opportunities lie in the present use of multimedia but more so in the realisation of its future potential use. As a result multimedia presents many new and emerging business and technical opportunities to companies and individuals over the next decade, both in developing, applying and using the technology. Therefore the identification and provision of discrete multimedia product's and service's to utilise, apply and take advantage of multimedia in these specific areas (education, training, advertising, sales and marketing) represents major business opportunities. The paper concludes by showing that there are numerous other areas of opportunity to develop into following the establishment of the initial base opportunities, it also shows that the potential for future opportunities is open ended.
