A nodular cast iron monoblock piston has been developed as one of the main advanced technologies for the Hino P11C engine which achieves top class low fuel consumption. There are three reasons for the adoption of this piston. The first is animprovement of the fuel consumption by heat insulation of the combustion chanber and a higher position of the top ring. The second is a substantial reduction of the compression height to increase the length of the stroke, and the third is anincrease in reliability and durability. This paper introduces the datails of the piston design to realize these three points.
