摘要

distribution inside pavements can be determined by embedding single-mode optical fibers in the pavement. The stress experienced by the fiber, changes the relative index of refraction between two orthogonal components of a polarized light traveling in the fiber. This phenomenon causes a phase delay, which is known as birefringence, between the two orthogonal components. This paper represents the birefringence caused by lateral pressure on concrete and soil pavements.
