Hematite powders were reduced stepwise from hematite to magnetite and magnetite to wustite with CO-CO_2 gas mixtures in a batch-type fluidized bed. The reduction curves were analyzed based on the bubble assemblage model and the unreacted-core model. The rate parameters included in the model were determined by using the reduction data. It was concluded from the results that diffusion in the product layer and chemical reaction should be considered in the model for the reduction of single particle.
