Mid-long-term load forecasting plays an important role in guiding development and fuel plans of an electric power system. The main task of it is forecasting the temporal and spatial distribution of the power load for the next few months, years, or even longer periods. In order to make full use of existing research findings, the characteristics of mid-long-term load forecasting, andpresented forecasting methods are discussed, and the solved problems are analyzed. With the development of an active distribution network, and big data of the electric power user side and spatial load forecasting, the directions for future researches on mid-long-term load forecasting are prospected.
