Dynamical equivalent can reduce the computing effort of the electrical power system. The characteristics of the hydro generator and the time taken for identification methods are without proper consideration in traditional dynamical equivalent methods. In this paper, a five-order generator model is used as the equivalent model of hydro generator group, and a novel objective function is also proposed. Then, a PSO identification method with distributed computing structure has been proposed to reduce the identification time. Finally, experiments have been utilized to verify the proposed method. The results indicate that the dynamic response of the equivalent model approaches the original system very well, and the proposed method can reduce the identification time significantly.
