Mechanical property for the combining yarn of BF/GF and polypropylene

In order to study the mechanical property for the combining yarn of BF/GF and polypropylene, 8 groups of combining yarn were designed and prepared. Through testing the mechanical property of the yarns, the affection of some parameters on the property of the yarns was analyzed. And following conclusions can be gotten. For BF/polypropylene combining yarn, when the fiber content of basalt is about 50.7%, the mechanical property of the yarn is the best. When the fiber content of basalt is about 43.7%, the mechanical property of the yarn is the worst. For GF/polypropylene combining yarn, the optimal and worst ratio is 55.42% and 44.4%, respectively. Polypropylene (PP) owns many kinds of excellent feature. For example, the density is little, the resistance of chemical attack is good, it is easy to be manufactured, the heat deflection temperature is high and the price is cheap, etc[1, 2]. The thermoplastic composite has attracted a lot of attention by the industrial circles in recent years. In order to solve the problem of making the resin infuse into the fiber efficiently, there are many kinds of technologies were developed[3,4]. So industrialization of the thermoplastic has been realized and was used in many areas. And PP has become one of the main matrix materials. Usually, the fiber which owns good property and low price could be selected as the reinforced fiber, such as glass fiber (GF) and basalt fiber (BF). Combining yarn is composed by two or more kinds of fiber. The synergistic effect and reinforced function can be exerted in these kinds of yarn[5-8]. In this paper, PP with good property was selected as the matrix materials, GF and BF were chosen as the reinforced fiber, the BF/PP and GF/PP combining yarn were manufactured. In order to study the mechanical property for the combining yarn of BF/PP and GF/PP, the surface morphology was observed and the mechanical property was tested.
