A method for making a chenille yarn comprises air texturing a binder yarn of taslan having an end each of polyethylene and of polypropylene, combining the air textured binder yarn with a pile yarn of polypropylene in a chenille machine to form a chenille yarn, heat conditioning to stabilise the twist of the chenille yarn and to give a final yarn giving 500-3000 yd./lb. Also claimed are methods (i) using a pile of spun acrylic or nylon yarn, a binder yarn including nylon 11, core yarns, polyethylene, rayon or cotton; and (ii) of making an upholstery chenille fabric by weaving the chenille yarn.
