This paper presents the mitigation of rockfall hazard on the large scalerock slope using the field tests with numerical simulation. To this end,field tests including pendulum test and real rock falling tests wereperformed to investigate the rock movement such as rotation, repulsionand speed. In the simulation, the validation of developed model followedby calibration processes was made on the field tests. In this study, asimple and new method was used to mitigate the rockfall hazard usingso called sand pool made by ditching and then filling sand where the rockshould be stopped or arrested. The results showed that this sand poolmethod was very effective and economical.
