In 1992 Colombia went through one of the darkest moments of its recent history. An intense "El Nino" phenomenon produced electricity rationing that affected the productivity of the country and the quality of life of the people. The lights went off for eight hours a day and cities remained in the dark, forcing the production of the country to stop. This episode led us to rethink our energy matrix and to start generating energy from thermoelectric plants, which led to the start of the natural gas era in the country and its successful development. Additionally, these new thermal generation plants, operated with natural gas instead of diesel, meant a significant reduction in CO_2 emissions.
