Mexico is experiencing a complicated political and economic situation, which is reflected in an increase in the lack of jobs, a social problem that has affected for years. The capacity of our country to generate productive employment is steadily declining, year by year the population with working age increases and the labour supply is not enough to cover demand. Sadly, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), it is said that in our country, contrary to what happens in the rest of the world, it has more advantageous to study basic education than higher education. The percentage of unemployment among those who completed a bachelor's degree or postgraduate degree is higher, compared to those who only finished basic education [1]. If we add the constant advances in information technologies and social changes, the challenge for the educational systems and particularly the Institutions of Higher Education (IHE), is greater. The Faculty of Informatics of Mazatlan (FIMAZ), in its career of Degree in Engineering in Information Systems (LISI), therefore its curricula must be continuously evaluated and updated. The Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) has an Institutional Program for the Assessment of Professional and Social Needs (PIENPSO), whose objective is to develop a comprehensive information system for the follow-up of graduates conducted to gather information of their location and laboral activities they perform, their satisfaction level and the employers needs in the professional performance that allows the restructuring of the academic planning and the decision making at institutional level. FIMAZ is responsible for collecting, analyzing and updating the labour information of its graduates to be analyzed for its academic unit. The information obtained contributes significantly to the improvement of the quality of its educational programs. This case study is about generation of graduates (2012 - 2016) which were taken as a sample of the degree in Information Systems Engineering at the Mazatlan Faculty of Informatics of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. The following research analyzes the current situation of their graduates in terms of their incorporation into the labour market, the need to migrate due to lack of jobs, the relevance of the curriculum based on the requirements of the labour market and finally, the relation between the academic average grades of the students regarding their integration in the labour sector, that is to say, how much do their grades influence to get jobs with greater hierarchy. We know that universities are not responsible for the lack of jobs, however, it is very important that they have a close communication with the labour market and consider the professional needs, its great challenge is to contribute to the training of professionals with the correct profile to face the challenges of the labour sector.
