The case presented here deals ultimately with the positive influence in the learning process that is brought about by the parallel acquisition of knowledge coming from different fields. This allows the researcher to have a global point of view and to shed light on unprecedented and profitable conclusions, which precisely arise as a result of a transverse vision. The idea develops in a background where heritage culture and predisposition of society aim at the completion of those pieces of art that are incomplete by diverse circumstances. That concept has been particularly applied to the comparison between the criteria used to restore historical buildings and the criteria adopted for the completion of unfinished or incomplete musical works. In this sense, the complicity between a student of architecture, with advanced knowledge of music, and her teacher (firstly) and tutor (afterwards) in the School of Architecture, equally well-trained in music, has been essential in the development of her dissertation, titled “The continuity of the piece of art. Architectural restauration vs. musical completion”. The simple and diffuse initial intuitions about analogies between Music and Architecture when studying the subject “Architectural Restoration” attracted the student to the point of developing further research, which result was the Final Degree Project, recently evaluated at the Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain). As a result, these intuitions were proved and successfully turned into a tangible and convincing reality thanks to a rigorous examination based on the study of compared cases. In particular, five architectural restoration trends were related with as many ways to complete unaccomplished or unfinished scores. The task has properly contributed to enhance knowledge in the field of architecture. In addition, it has opened a path for new analytical cases as well as for deepening into the possible transfer of study methodologies between both disciplines. In any case, the results are currently being reworked and synthesized for their publication as a journal article.
