The study investigates what memory strategies for learning vocabulary (MSLV) are favoured by thelanguage learners enrolled on the higher level course of the Foundation Programme at an Omaniuniversity. At the same time, it explores the teachers' perceptions of their students' preferences fordifferent memory strategies. The study aims at answering two research questions: 1) What are themost frequent vocabulary learning memory strategies used by the sample group? and 2) What are theperceptions of the sample group's teachers with regard to research question no.1? Through tworesearch instruments, a questionnaire for the students and an adapted questionnaire for theirteachers, the data are collected, analyzed and discussed in relation to a number of possibleparametres of the content analysis, such as personal vocabulary learning habits, autonomous vs.imposed tasks, previous vocabulary learning experience, attitude to learning English vocabulary anduse of digital resources for learning vocabulary. The findings will be discussed and complemented byreflections on vocabulary teaching approaches involved in the programme curriculum. The study isconcluded with recommendations for future research and analysis.
