On Migrating from Present Identity Management Services to EIDAS

Identity management is a real problem that currently affects all kind of online applications that require remote identification mechanisms. Basic solutions such as username-password combinations are no longer considered satisfactory especially when it comes to sensitive applications such as ebanking, local or governmental administration, e-health and so on. Several identity management and trust services solutions exist but their main problem is the lack of compatibility and interoperability. In order to overcome these problems. EU issued a regulation (EIDAS) that aims to offer a unitary framework for safe digital interactions between citizens, companies, administrative entities etc. In this paper a practical implementation of a service similar to EIDAS is presented. Current partial results confirm the utility and necessity of an identity management service and can predict the success of EIDAS at EU level.
