"10 Trends Driving Automation Efficiency, Reliability and Risk Reduction" was the focus of several end user driven industry forums involving high level midstream infrastructure developers, Integrators and engineering companies. The topic was chosen to stimulate conversation between these players and determine how they expect to run their business in the next 5 years. Participant's stated the "Efficiency, Reliability and Risk Reduction were the metrics that continue to produce increased profits in this challenging business environment" but also considered the commercial implications and their technical development strategy relative to cost and performance. The forum focused on gas plants as well as LNG import/export facilities and the need to predict changes prior to an event which impacts their operations. From the perspective of operational staff efficiencies, the program was focused on the technologies which enable even the most inexperienced personnel to examine the situation, making the right decision, and automatically taking the appropriate action from the start. The current reality is that many new engineers are coming into an industry faced with more complicated systems, extending their learning curve and potentially increasing the safety risk of a facility. To this end the forum addressed the topic in terms of standardization and the trends to improve facility automation, reducing technical complexity and streamlining work practices. To maintain profitability in these challenging economic environments, Gas Processing and LNG facility operators also shared best practices relative to the management of a reduced resource base by getting the most out of your experience personnel. By implementing the right tools that fundamentally reduce cost and improve operational efficiency while essentially doubling the output of highly experienced resources. In conclusion, the session explored how an Intelligent Gas Processing solution can enable operation and maintenance personnel to constantly monitor all assets and reduce exposure to potential operational upsets. By optimizing the performance and efficiency of the plant, field operations and maintenance team, operators can use the tools to quickly react to changing operating conditions as well as improve asset reliability while reducing the risk to production, personal and the environment.
