Comparative Evaluation of Comply Earsealsand Alternative Hearing Protection Devices in U.S. Navy Aircrew Helmets Using an Acoustic Test Fixture
1. The acoustic attenuation of Comply ear seal shows significance(α = 0.05) that is dependenton helmettype and noise1. frequency dependent improvements and degrades were seen with the Comply ear seal as compared to base helmets2. Hearing protection should be optimally selected based on specific noise environments of intended use2. Overallnoise levels of Comply ear seal shows:1. nosignificant differencewith HGU-84and HGU-56 RWH in pinknoise and HGU-68with propellernoise.2. 1.7 dB improvement with HGU-68 and a 3 dB degrade in HGU-56 in pink noise.3. COTS ear cups and ear seals show that noise attenuation can be improved in the HGU-68 helmet1. CreareAHP with the HGU-84 liner in the HGU-68 helmet shows the best performance with more than 14 dB overall noise attenuation.
