This article shows that is generally possible to determine the total road load of a vehicle with the AEROLAB method, whereby the residual brake forces are measured at the flat belt dynamometer. The maximum deviation between this method and the Coastdown method is 3% at the velocities of 20 and 30 km/h and so the difference in cycle energy between this method and the Coastdown method is only -0.6% for the investigated vehicle. Additionally, it is pointed out that the gear transmission oil temperatures, the tyre tread temperatures, the ride height change and the surface structure of the road or rather the test bench belts have a significant influence on the absolute value of the determined road load of a vehicle.
