The global regulations subject to the ultrafine particles concentration inside a combustion flue gas become stricter due to the harmful effects on both atmosphere and human body. While previously the coal fired power plant industry employed the dry electrostatic precipitator (EP), nowadays it is inevitable to install the additional treatment unit to satisfy the stricter regulations for ultrafine dusts. One of the promising systems may be a wet EP. It however have a few problems such as non-uniform water film formation on the wall, large system size, excessive water and energy consumption, and thereby large operation costs. To improve such drawbacks, we herein propose a novel wet EP which includes the cyclone and electrospray technology. In this work, we present the design, the fabrication and the sub-1μm particles (PM1.0) collection test of the electrospray driven wet cyclone EP. The experimental results showed the maximum collection efficiency was 94% for the electrical field strength of 4.0 kV/cm with the water amount of 12 ml/min for every single nozzle.
