The end-users who use modeling and simulation (M&S) products as tools to resolve their problems in analysis, training and analysis domains, need a certain level of credibility to accredit a model for a particular application. The credibility is assessed based on the results from the verification and validation (V&V) of the model, and the objectivity in the means of the verification and validation. Thus the results of the V&V and the objectivity of those results drive the credibility. Could the predetermined or expected credibility level shape the VV&A activities? The level of effort required for the verification and validation of a model for a particular application can be rationalized based on the necessary level of credibility of the model for that particular application, where the level of credibility can be classified based on the objectivity in the means of the verification and validation, and the nature and the impact of the M&S application. In the process for verification, validation and accreditation (VV&A) of a model/simulation system based on this approach, the modeling and simulation application is classified according to its impact to the reality; based on the impact level, the application requirements are tailored and the necessary objectivity level is determined; using objectivity level and tailored application requirements the level of effort for verification and validation (V&V) is determined. Finally the credibility of the model for that particular application is assessed in the light of the results of the V&V conducted.
