Blasting contaminants are an inescapable component of drill and blast mining. Productivity is affected by the efficiency of blast clearing underground. Ventilation control systems are allowing operators to focus ventilation air into areas affected by blasting. However with auxiliary fans and ducting used to ventilate the dead-end area at the site of the blast, increasing ventilation to the level or sublevel may not be effective in accelerated re-entry time. This paper describes investigations into the critical factors that define the rate of blasting gas dissipation and makes conclusions for estimating re-entry time.
