It has been reported that microwave processing decreases sintering temperature of some ceramics, such as zirconia and lithium aluminosilicate, suggesting that those results could be extended to other ceramics. Yasuoka et al. compared microwave sintering of pellets of 18 mm diameter in a kitchen oven at 800 W for 30 minutes followed by 960 W for 10 minutes, with SiC as susceptor, against conventional sintering at 1140°C for 2 hours, with a heating rate of 10°C/min.
