SlLANE-MODIFIED-POLYMER (SMP) HYBRID POLYMERS AND THEIR MULTIPLE USE UTILITY

Silane-Modified-Polymer (SMP) hybrid polymers combine the unique characteristics of an organic polyether polymer backbone, coupled through urethane groups, to silane terminated functional groups. These terminal silane components allow curing via hydrolysis/condensation. The moisture reactive groups are accelerated through the use of amino silanes which also enhance adhesion to many substrates. An added benefit is the ability to formulate without the use of organometallic catalysts when using an alpha silane modified polymer. SMP hybrid polymers have a wide range of functionality. They can be used in sealants and adhesives for various application ranging from low modulus, low hardness construction sealants to high strength industrial adhesives. As examples, they also have utility in the coatings industry as thin layer water proofing liquid membranes or elastomeric roof coatings. Additionally they have utility in bulk systems such as offering 2K grout performance similar to epoxy polymers in a IK system. The variety of the SMP hybrid polymers offered have near limitless potential due to the ability to offer high or low modulus grades, high or low relative molecular weight, high or low crosslink density as well as the flexibility to offer multiple curing reaction potential by using either alpha or gamma SMP hybrid polymers.
