CONSOL ENERGY'S BMX PROJECT...PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE

In 2010, CONSOL Energy entered into the BMX Project which added a 5th Longwall mining machine to the Bailey Complex and increased coal production from 21 million tons to 28 million tons annually. This required upgrading the surface facilities including the raw coal material handling system, preparation plant, clean coal material handling system, train loadout, and rail system over a 3 year period. The Bailey Central preparation plant capacity was increased from 6,200 tph to 8,200 tph in the same building footprint by adding surge bins, larger sieves and screens, desliming cyclones, and replacing vacuum filters and thermal dryers with screen-bowl centrifuges. A 10,000 tph Kanawha Scales Dual Batch Loadout was installed. At the completion of the project in March of 2014, the complex shipped over 2.5 million tons in March, April, and May of 2014. Through several years of engineering and construction, CONSOL Energy's Bailey Complex continues to challenge itself to be the industry leaders in Safety, Compliance and Continuous Improvement.
