During the last four years Egyptian Fertilizers Company (EFC) and ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions finalized the revamp of two Urea plants of EFC in Egypt. The revamps of these plants, which had the same starting point with a capacity of 1925 mtpd Urea each, have increased the plants' capacities by 17% to a new capacity of 2250 mtpd each. The revamps cover the synthesis and granulation sections. For a capacity increase of a urea plant additional reaction volume, stripping, evaporation and condensation capacity needs to be installed. With Stamicarbon's MP add-on synthesis a concept is presented here with a minimized number of changes in the high-pressure section of the plant. The main experience of these projects is that by defining the revamp concept only part of the work is done. In order to fulfill all individual requirements of the project a precise investigation of all existing equipment has to be carried out in addition to the design of the newly installed items. Therefore, in addition to the revamp concepts also the experiences made during the engineering phase construction and commissioning are discussed in this paper.
